Movies
As I've always said, the topics don't necessarily make sense (or Sensibility), but things pop into my head and I like to follow where my "chemo brain" takes me (honestly, I can't really blame it on the chemo; I'm pretty idiot-syncratic all on my own).
Depending on your age, there is a classic movie (or two) about cancer in your cinema pantheon. They can be informative, they can tug at your heartstrings, or they can even provide a much-needed bit of comic relief now and then.
Not necessarily based on box office success, counting down to #1, this list reflects a recent polling of what over 1,000 felt were their Top 10 Movies About Cancer.
10. Love Story (1970)
9. Erin Brockovich (2000)
8. Now is Good (2012)
7. Stepmom (1998)
6. The Bucket List (2007)
5. 50/50 (2011)
4. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)
3. A Walk to Remember (2002)
2. My Sister's Keeper (2009)
1. The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
I know that your favorite may not have made the list (I didn't manage the voting), but here are a couple more - For Your Consideration:
- Brian's Song (1971)
- Terms of Endearment (1983)
- Dark Victory (1939 - B&W classic, for you John)
and no list is complete without the three-hanky standard-bearer:
- Beaches (1988)
I’d love to know any of your favorites that didn’t make it to The List.
