This may seem like an oxymoron, but for me it’s almost like oxycodone.
In this time of shifting jobs, shifting professions, and the shifting sands which corporate empires are built upon (or merged within), it’s rare for a group of co-workers to be around each other long enough to bond in any kind of familial way – let alone establish a relationship. I have been blessed with quite the opposite.
With over a dozen notches on my IXM gun belt (IXM = my employer Impact-XM; gun belt = metaphor for the tools we use to slay clients, conquer creative/budgetary challenges, and slay clients) I’ve had enough time to really get to know my colleagues. Some take longer to learn, others are a quick read (for the good or for the bad). But in the end, so many have come to be like family to me.
I’m not out of the woods yet, but IXM has been incredibly flexible, supportive, understanding – and genuinely concerned about me and my health. If it takes a village to raise a child (don’t worry, I’m not going there), then it surely takes a village to heal a cancer victim. It may be a simple “How ya doin’ buddy?” Or a “Glad to hear your voice” on a conference call. But they are concerned, and that matters and it helps – all within the seemingly cold and callous confines of corporate commerce. Bah humbug - - - people really still do care about each other.
